Plant Exchange in the 19th Century

Index of Digital Exchange Catalogues

Edited by Christof Nikolaus Schröder.

Exchange Catalogues of Plant Exchange Organizations (PEO), e.g. «Delectus plantarum», «Doubletten-Verzeichnis», «Dubletten-Catalog», «Especies distribuidas», «Jahreskatalog», «List of Desiderata», «Offertenliste» etc., were, as ephemeral publications, usually not made for eternity nor for the library. That’s why they are rarely found in digital repositories. Sometimes they were reprinted in journals to make numbers and names of taxa publically available. As there was no list of such Exchange Catalogues available, nor printed neither in the WWW, the editor compiled an index to digital resources in Chapter 1.
Several PEOs, Botanical Societies or publishers published national plant catalogues or lists for the purpose of plant exchange, herbarium use and record clubs. Such digital catalogues are listed in Chapter 2.
Some herbaria published exchange catalogues of dried specimina as well. They are listed in Chapter 3.
